Low-code: an answer to new challenges
A few years back at Indaver, we faced challenges that required new software development. Our existing systems no longer fit our requirements. We wanted to create applications that were almost natural to use, without extensive training. After research, we chose Mendix’s low-code platform because of its integration options with SAP and its ability to respond quickly to changing laws and regulations. Mendix allows us to build attractive applications with a clean backend. The platform helps us integrate applications with various environments and encourages collaboration between IT and the business. Over time, we have developed a series of efficient low-code applications for managing and transporting waste streams across borders.
Lessons from practice
Although the time savings are not as great as Mendix itself claims, it is definitely faster than traditional high-code approaches. Working as a “fusion team,” where IT and the business work closely together, has resulted in high-quality solutions. Another important insight is that even with Mendix, some high-code is still sometimes necessary. Furthermore, it is crucial to implement and follow your own procedures for backups, user management, updates and patching, unlike systems such as SAP where this is often already taken care of.
