Shorter time-to-market? This is how you do it!

01/03/2023

A short time-to-market is golden for customers. You can’t keep shouting endlessly about it. In the long run, you become implausible as a company. In this blog, Cedric Eraly, Business Analyst and Mendix Developer at Mendify, talks about how to keep time-to-market – or time-to-business – as short as possible.

The digitization challenge

That the world is digitizing faster and faster and that beautiful things are coming out of that, there is no longer any doubt about that. But it brings one challenge. The business invents new applications where you stand, but IT often has to deal with a months-long backlog. As a result, they cannot respond quickly enough to business needs. Often the systems are also not flexible enough to simply go along with all these changes. Meanwhile, the business sees competitors rushing past left and right. Do you recognize this? Then it’s overwhelmingly time to get started with low-code.

A roadmap provides guidance

Of course, low-code an sich is not a panacea, not even Mendix. Everything hinges on a good strategic IT roadmap. In such a roadmap, you lay out – preferably with a knowledgeable IT partner – what you are working toward. Such a dot on the horizon gives a foothold and helps you determine what is important and what is not.

Co-creation

Then when you get started with Mendix’s low-code platform, you can work in very fast iterations. You can involve people from the business very closely in the development process. After all, people from the business are content experts; Mendix developers are experts when it comes to Mendix’s low-code platform. Bringing those two areas of expertise together creates the most valuable form of co-creation. This allows you to give a demo to the business every two weeks and they experience how fast this works.

Innovate

The combination of business and IT working together, a clear roadmap and the low-code development methodology, allows you to deliver an application as much as 10 times faster than traditional development methods. And also completely according to the customer’s wishes. This is how you align business demand and IT capacity. If you can deliver quickly, you won’t have to deal with that slowing backlog either, and that’s how you give the business a chance to innovate. Is there a new need or are laws and regulations changing? No problem, with a few weeks you can get started! Finally, as an IT team, you don’t have to shout: we’re working on it, you can ask: when do you want it?
